Just a flat, old fashioned key made from an SVG key icon. Free to use! Links back to the asset here https://skfb.ly/oO8CX are appreciated.
My indie game dev teammate @AdjectiveBeaver wanted a key model to demonstrate this technique for unlocking doors and triggering door opening animations in a Spatial.io space: https://www.spatial.io/s/Sample-AB-Key-System-656a99afd31f14f2b015d42c So I used it as an excuse to try out a workflow I have been experimenting with:
I have a paid subscription to this fantastic collection of icons called NounProject, and I made this key model by purchasing this SVG file https://thenounproject.com/icon/key-21156/, downloading and opening it in Adobe Illustrator, filling the shapes with Shape Builder, exporting the resulting shape as an SVG again, then importing that into Blender. Then I converted the Curves object into Mesh, then cleaned up the mesh, extruded and beveled it, unwrapped it, and finally exported it as FBX for texturing in Adobe Substance Painter.
