Section 18/20: The North Slope of the Western High Gate of Medinet Habu.
This area, along with the South Slope in Section 17, has never been excavated, but it is clear that its rubble contains objects (mostly potsherds) that span the history of Medinet Habu’s occupation from pharaonic times through the medieval period. The vertical scale-bar is leaning against an exposed section of slanted stratigraphy – the result of generations of ancient rubbish being thrown over the city wall.
