This is a prism map that shows outcome of the 2017 Virginia gubernatorial election with blue and red color shading to indicate the margin of outcome (see key) and height to show the voter turnout in each voting district (county or independent city). The turnout (calculated here as votes cast per voting-age population) ranges from 23% in Harrisonburg to 59% in Falls Church (see annotations). This map is not intended to be a comment on the outcome of the election (I am much more of a map geek than a politics geek); rather, is a map that I was interested in seeing that I could not find elsewhere. Election results are from: http://results.elections.virginia.gov/vaelections/2017%20November%20General/Json/Governor.json Population data are from: http://demographics.coopercenter.org/population-estimates-age-sex-race-hispanic-towns/
There is an alternative version of the map that shows relative voter turnout for each district at: https://skfb.ly/6usRX and a 2D animated version at: https://youtu.be/XpXeD_4gABE
