More model informationRemains of the 17th century Allensford Blast Furnace. An iron forge for the production of iron at Allensford was in place by at least 1683. Archaeomagnetic dating of the furnace provided a date for its final campaign of 1740 +/- 10 years. The furnace was one of only two in the North East producing iron during the 17th century and the calcining kiln nearby is the earliest surviving example of the type nationally.
Model produced during the 2019 consolidation of the Blast Furnace, but before the turf cap was added.
Photography undertaken on the 29th August 2019.
A model of the furnace before the scheme of works began, showing it capped with concrete placed in the late 20th century, can be seen at https://skfb.ly/6QwSX
