The iron furnance at Allensford, Northumberland3D Model
Remains of the 17th century Allensford Blast Furnace. An iron forge for the production of iron at Allensford was in place by at least 1683. Archaeomagnetic dating of the furnace provided a date for its final campaign of 1740 +/- 10 years. The furnace was one of only two in the North East producing iron during the 17th century and the calcining kiln nearby is the earliest surviving example of the type nationally.
Model produced before the 2019 consolidation of the Blast Furnace, showing the concrete cap as placed in the late 20th century. Photography undertaken October 2017.
A model of the furnace during the 2019 consolidation works once the concrete cap had been removed can be seen at https://skfb.ly/6QwTw
