This 3D model represents the mass grave site discovered in Izum after the city’s liberation from russian occupation in September 2022. At this site, over 449 bodies were found, most of which were civilians who died during the occupation. Many bodies showed signs of violent death and torture, indicating war crimes committed by russian forces.
The russian invasion of Ukraine, which began in February 2022, has led to numerous tragedies and crimes against humanity. The mass grave in Izium is one of the most striking pieces of evidence of the cruelty and inhumane treatment of Ukrainian citizens. The scanning was funded by the Howard G. Buffett Foundation. This model was created to document these crimes and draw international attention to russia’s military actions in Ukraine, which is a crucial step towards ensuring justice and holding the perpetrators accountable.
