Kilcomin Church (OF041-004----) Transept Gable3D Model
Gable of the south transept of Kilcomin (Cill Chuimín) Church, parish of Kilcomin, diocese of Killaloe, barony of Clonlisk, Co. Offaly. This 15th-16th century parish church was built on the site of Kilcomin Monastery founded by St Cuimín in the seventh century. The church consists of a rectangular building with two storey barrel-vaulted priests house at the west end with a single wing or side chapel projecting south from the eastern end of the church. The transept was lit by a single-light unglazed window with chamfered pock-dressed jambstones located in the centre of the southern gable. A flat-headed wall-cupboard also known as an aumbry is visible on the internal face of the southern gable, on the western side of the window. Small square holes visible in the external and internal face of the gable, are putlog holes which supported the wooden scaffolding when the church walls were being built.
