More model informationThis lime kiln (Grade II listed) stands on the shore overlooking the beach at Cwmtydu in Ceredigion.
Its original function was for burning limestone, which was imported by ship, the lime produced from this process was then spread on fields to enhance their productivity and counteract the naturally acidic soils of the area. The lime was also used for making lime mortar for building work. The coal that fueled the process was also imported by ship.
The lime kiln was recorded on the 24th August 2022 and is listed in the National Monuments Record of Wales (NPRN402848) https://coflein.gov.uk/en/site/402848/
