The tugboat VERNICOS ALEXIA was wrecked in October 1981 on the coast of Pembrokeshire, west of Solva, while on route from Liverpool to Greece.
The tug was one of three virtually identical vessels all lost in the same place, at the same time, after the lead vessel, which was towing the other two, suffered engine failure. All of the crews were rescued by the St David’s Lifeboat and an RAF Search and Rescue helicopter.
The tugs were salvaged after their wrecking, and have broken up further since 1981. However, significant parts of the machinery, hull, fixtures and fittings are still visible and highly coherent on the beach. Details of all three tugboats are entered in the National Monuments Record of Wales. VERNICOS ALEXIA is NPRN 273260 https://coflein.gov.uk/en/site/273260/
