The Near Caves of the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra are a complex of underground corridors and spaces of underground churches. In 1057, St Anthony (the founder of the Pechersk Monastery), who sought solitude, moved from the Far Caves to another slope, where he dug a new underground cell for himself. Then monks gathered around St Anthony, and the Near Caves complex was formed. St Anthony, Nestor the Chronicler, Ilya Muromets and 70 other saints are buried in these caves.
The depth of the caves is 10-15 metres. The length of the caves is 383 metres.
Together with the Far Caves, they make up the so-called Lower Lavra. Link to the Sketchfab model of the Far Caves.
The scanning was funded by the Aliph Foundation.
