More model informationThis is a restoration of an Iberian Ceramic Pot. The original model was downloaded from the Global Digital Heritage Sketchfab page and can be seen following this link: https://skfb.ly/oHpsr The original pot was in a good shape only with minor holes, so restoring the mesh was not a big problem. The big challenge with this project was recreating the pigmentation and motifs drawn on the pot. The original but faded colors were used as the base for this restoration but I also find useful to check other pottery of the same style for guidance. All the texture work was done using Substance Painter.

@continuumreed I think it's a more common practice now, especially with so many models being available thanks to Sketchfab and the institutions. The people at Kore have been doing their courses for 10 years now, and I'm sure this kind of restoration jobs have been around, at least as accesible as now, for more or less that amount of time. But maybe now is getting more popular, just a guess.
@digitalhistoryhd Extremely cool. About five years ago I was doing research like this (with ancient Greek vases), so I was astonished to see this pop up while idly browsing the most-recent-models section of Sketchfab. Is this a common practice in the field now, or are you experimenting on your own with this? I looked into the Kore place that offers courses in it, which seems to be pretty new.
@continuumreed Thank you! I did a much smaller and simpler restoration a bit ago: skfb.ly/oGWwO
But this is my first attempt at doing something much more complex and with higher detail. I'm glad you liked the technique. I'm fine tuning my Blender and Substance Painter technique and I expect I will be doing more of these restorations, although I can't say when the next will be coming.
This is fascinating. How many restorations like this have you done? How many do you plan to do? This technique is incredibly interesting.
