Main entrance gate to Taleju Temple in Hanuman Dhoka inside Kathmandu durbar square.
This temple together with the door, was built in 1564 AD by Mahendra Malla. This temple is one of the holiest temple in Nepal as this temple or this big door is opened only once a year in the festival of dashain.
Every year in the festival of dashain, a mass killing of animals takes place here as a belief that sacrificing animals pleases “Durga”. Approximately 60 goats, 31 buffaloes and 30 ducks are killed as a mass sacrificial ceremony. The temple is largest in kathamndu durbar square and inside, there is a shire dedicated to Taleju Bhawani ( Godess Durga), and Kumari Devi.
