More model informationThe third of the principal three crosses at St. Andrew’s Church, Middleton, North Yorkshire. The side facing you as you load the model portrays a complex interlace design, perhaps a knotted rope or maze. On the reverse is a simpler interlace resembling textile, though no less impressive in the skill required to carve it. Onthe right had side is degenerate Christian ‘vine scroll’ pattern, apparently incorporating two ‘pagan’ animal heads though these are hard to discern. 9th-10th Century.
