More model informationThe first of the principal three crosses at St. Andrews Church, Middleton, North Yorkshire. The side facing you as you load the model portrays a hunter with a spear, sword, shield and scramasax. Accompanied by two dogs, he hunts a stag. On the other side is a Viking art style mythical beast of some kind. I’m not a an expert on these but it appears to be a singular ‘Jellinge’ style monster, though these are usually in a symmetrical pair. Up the narrow sides of the shaft and around the arms of the cross-head are a fairly standard interlace pattern. 9th-10th Century.
