St. John Nepomuk Chapel in Schönborn, Göllersdorf. The baroque chapel was built in the years 1729 to 1733. On the square ground plan rises on four columns a hood decorated with floral garlands and angels’ heads. At the top a crown. In the center, on a sarcophagus-like pedestal, stands the statue of St. Nepomuk. The pedestal is decorated with reliefs depicting scenes from the life of the saint. On each side there is a lantern on volutes.
The building was designed by Johann Lukas von Hildebrandt, the most important master builder in Central Europe during the Baroque period. Hildebrandt built, among others, the Vienna Belvedere, several castles, palaces and churches.
