Located under the approach to the Coronado Bridge in San Diego's Barrio Logan, Chicano Park is home to the largest collection of outdoor murals in the U.S.

In the 1960s, construction of I-5 and the Coronado Bridge cut Barrio Logan in two, displacing residents and destroying thousands of homes. The city of San Diego had promised to build a park on land under the approach to the bridge, but instead, construction of a Highway Patrol station began at the site in 1970. After a demonstration and land takeover by local residents and activists, construction was halted, and funds were allocated to develop a park. Local and regional artists, along with community members, painted over 60 murals on pillars supporting the freeway. In 2016, the park was named a National Historic Landmark.
