More model informationThe spatial documentation of the Apedemak Temple took place in 2009.
Musawwarat es Sufra, located some 150km north-east of Karthoum, is a large site with ruins of the meroitic epoch (270 BC - 350 AD).
The main structure of the site is the Great Enclosure, which consists of three main temples, courtyards, passages and ramps. Not far from it, the temple of the lion god Apedemak is found.
In a restoration project in 1969/1970, the Apedemak (lion) temple has been entirely re-erected.
All of Musawwarat es Sufra’s ruins and reliefs are severely threatened by heat, sandy winds, and flooding during rain season.
