Section 8/20: The Base of the South Tower of the Western High Gate of Medinet Habu.
This section features the only element of the Western High Gate’s stone architecture that is still standing above ground level: the base of the South Tower, including some of its underlying foundation blocks and associated pavement. The two towers of the Western High Gate were designedly imposing both in their physical size (each tower was about 8 meters [26 feet] wide and some 18.5 meters [60 feet] tall), and in the subject matter carved on their front surfaces.
