Global near surface temperature (C) with respect to the average temperature from 1961 to1990 from January 1850 to March of 2016 from the HadCRUT4 near surface temperature data set “median of the 100 ensemble member time series”http://bit.ly/1qhmq0E. The center of this radar plot is -1 degrees cooler than the 1961-1990 average, the outside of the blue cylinder is average (0 C), and the outside of the red annulus is +1 C warmer. The Z-axis is time and all axes are linear. I got the idea for this plot after seeing the (awesome) 2D animated version that Ed Hawkins posted at http://www.climate-lab-book.ac.uk/2016/spiralling-global-temperatures/; I wanted to develop a model that would convert the temporal information in his animated gif into a spatial third dimension. The progress bar can be slid back and forth to better view the temperature and time axes.
