More model informationNeolithic chalk ‘drum’ found at the base of a pit at a multi-period site in Chalkpit Lane, East Lavant (Sussex, Britain). The drum was found with animal bones, knapped flints, and pottery sherds. Radiocarbon dating of a cattle humerus yielded a date of 2810-2678 cal BC (95.4%). The pit seemed to have been filled rather quickly. The Novium museum collections, Chichester.
The results of the recent study of the drum and its context can be found in the 2019 book “Making a Mark: Image and Process in Neolithic Britain and Ireland” (pp. 72-81) https://www.oxbowbooks.com/oxbow/making-a-mark.html
