More model informationFluidized bed reactors can be used to obtain water and iron from ilmenite. Hydrogen bubbled through the molten ilmenite displaces some of the iron bonded with oxygen in the melt, forming water, which steams off and is collected in the tank to the side. The free iron sinks to the bottom of the tank and can be drawn off after sundown. Only some of the iron and water is extracted, but both are very valuable for local living.
