More model informationThe Ancient Egyptians believed that their deeds in life would be judged by Maat after their death. If the individual was found to be wanting, their heart would be eaten by the monster Ammmit. The heart scarab was placed within the mummy wrappings to prevent such an occurrence. It could be inscribed with a protective spell to ‘prevent the heart of the deceased creating opposition to him in the realm of the dead.’
This scarab is inscribed for “the… officer Amenmehsu.” It is 76mm lengthwise and made of polished green jasper.
