More model informationArcheologists found this iron musket rest in the domestic slave quarters of Montpelier. The weight of muskets caused difficulty aiming, so gun rests increased accuracy. The location of the gun rest suggests that slaves used it for hunting to supplement their diets. 3D scanned with a NextEngine Desktop 3D scanner in the archaeology laboratory at George Washington’s Mount Vernon. Description by Virginia Commonwealth University student Jessica Evans. Digital model provided by the Virtual Curation Laboratory courtesy of James Madison’s Montpelier.
