The Grotto: William Ricketts Sanctuary (HQ)3D Model
This scene is my entry for the RealityCapture for Culture competition. Normally I’d advise against using a mobile phone but in this case I decided to go with a citizen science theme by showing what can be achieved with a basic camera and Reality Capture. The location is the amazing William Ricketts Sanctuary in Melbourne, Australia (http://parkweb.vic.gov.au/explore/parks/william-ricketts-sanctuary-gardens-of-the-dandenongs)
The forest setting not only makes photography quite challenging due to low light levels but there is also a risk of sculptures being damage by falling branches from the huge Mountain Ash trees.
Equipment: iPhone 8, 1.8m monopod, Bluetooth remote trigger, XRite colour chart and a scale bar (spirit level with a cm scale along one edge)
Created in RealityCapture by Capturing Reality from 1576 images in 10h:53m:53s. Original mesh: 228M faces.
