The foreshore at Victoria Docks, Kingston-upon-Hull, as captured by a drone survey. The low-resolution model shows a large portion of CITiZAN’s study area, inluding old launching slipways, timber revetment and some abandoned Humber vessels. Earle’s Shipbuilding & Engineering Company was a major presence in the Hull shipbuilding industry from 1845 until 1932, and produced over 700 ships in its time. Today little of the site remains, as the old Victoria Docks have been filled in and the site is largely new housing. However, reminders of the once-great industry can still be found around the area.
The site can be seen today from the path to the north, or the river Humber from the south. The mud around the vessel remains can be dangerous and some rare birds now use the site as well, so please be careful.
