Qatar Museums - Zubarah Bay 1 - Find 00013D ModelNoAI
The first ceramic find recovered by the Maritime Archaeology Trust and Qatar Museums team during excavation of a potential wreck site located in Zubarah Bay, Al Zubarah, Qatar, in January 2018.
The vessel is large at just over half a metre wide and with 0.45 m of height remaining. The body was partially exposed above the sand and encrusted with sponges (https://skfb.ly/6xSx6). It features a distinctive rope pattern around the waist and a wave pattern around the neck, also appears to be typical of the Zubarah type of the 18th-19th century. It was discovered by Trust divers following a side scan sonar survey to identify anomalies within the bay.
Five other large ceramics were recovered which together are indictaive of a potetial wreck site. More models of the as-found feature, the ceramics and the site plan to follow.
