A mid 15th Century example of a Type XVIIIa blade with distinct mid rib and squared shoulders. The pommel is of a unique form: a type of wheel pommel with no similar surviving example as yet identified. This piece is thought to be of Italian make, and is said to have come from a tomb opened in the late 19th C, possibly in France. It was accompanied by a small rondel dagger and both are in very good condition.
