Locality: Poland, Upper Silesian Coal Basin (Górnośląskie Zagłębie Węglowe) **Age: ** ~305mya
The plants represented in this fossil are all extinct, there are no more seed ferns living today. Around 300 million years ago, however, these plants were living in an extensive coal forest in what would eventually be named Poland.
These forests had no actual trees, but were instead populated with various ferns and moss relatives, some of which were very tree-like.
These seed ferns, as their name suggests, reproduced through seeds rather than spores as all living ferns do today.
This specimen is approximately 10.8cm x 8.25cm and was scanned using Agisoft Photoscan.
