More model informationPart of grey and pink granodiorite stela bearing priestly decree concerning Ptolemy V in three blocks of text: Hieroglyphic (14 lines), Demotic (32 lines) and Greek (54 lines). The inscription is a decree passed by a council of priests, one of a series that affirm the royal cult of the 13 year-old Ptolemy V on the first anniversary of his coronation.

@darkfakt
These are the words of a common thief...
It's pity but this happens when you don't have your own civilization. You steal from Greeks, Chinese, Indians, Egyptians e.t.c....
@thanosgoussis without us, these arrtifacts were lost. They belong to french and english people
@wizardbynight Don't get me wrong but both French and British talking about which one is the owner of an Egyptian stone?...
Very familiar story about many things Louvre and British museum 'owns'..
Come on guys say at least farewell to
Colonialism.....
Shame the 3D model doesn't have the text inscribed into it
@nicnben no, the stone was taken by the British after defeating Napoleon in 1801. Champollion deciphered it in 1822.

Great stuff, great history!
How do you get permission to download?
We were able to touch the stone on a visit in the 90’s. Last time there, there was an extra fee to see the stone, encased in lexan.
On one of its sides is the inscription: "Captured in the Egypt by the British Army in 1801 ”. This stone has been stolen from a french scientist Jean-François Champollion by the british army in 1801. Thanks Brits.
We featured this model on the Sketchfab community blog in 'Diving Deep into 3D with Underwater Malta'!

Beautyfull !!!
This is awesome! I just saw the real stone back in June - Amazing!
@sastun1962 4096 x 1
Great work! thanks. Only a question about texture resolution in Photoscan: what resolution have? (4096 x1 or more) or is a tiled model? thnks
@britishmuseum Thank you! Shift click, OK. Perhaps you can just state such on the page so people like me don't have to bother you with UI questions. But great job, thanks! And now, how about the rest of the Egyptian collection so we can have a look at all the hieroglyphs?
@allanvalmck you can drag the stone around the viewer. Press shift and click on the stone and drag down to where you want to view.
Good first go, but the camera angle is locked onto 0,0,0 - e.g., you can't zoom in to the Egyptian section of the stone. There is no horizontal or vertical move function. Please add that so we can actually examine all writing on the stone.
This is a fabulous example of making important parts of the patrimony of all mankind available to anyone worldwide. Photographs are always great, but nothing conveys information like a three-dimensional model that can be manipulated. Thanks for sharing your work. I'm always looking forward to the next item you'll be sharing.
Dude; y'all have been posting some epic pieces of history here, but I've been waiting for this one ever since I learned about this site. This is completely awesome; please keep up the most excellent work!
@britishmuseum I know, that not my deal.
But if goal of your organisation is preservation cultural heritage "OSX can't run" is not an answer. ;)
Photogrammetry and OSX is not compatible for this moment. Thanx to Apple for this. AMD cards, that required 10x times more for coding in OpenCL, rather than in CUDA that better support by Nvidia.
As NPO i think you can easily contact both Bentley and Capturing Reality, and them easily provide free or huge discount for your project.
And this 2 best photogrammetry tool on market for this days.
BTW, if you have Nvidia on your Mac you can make dual boot and install windows support.apple.com/en-gb/HT201468
But much easier built cheap PC with old 900x GTX cards, that will outperform Photoscan in speed and in quality.
Even monitor is not needed, setup windows, run VNC or Teamviewer and use it for Photogrammetry only.
Bentley ContextCapture will work better with low quality images. RealityCapture will much better but you will need high quality images or shoot 2-3x times more for improve quality (even in this case RC will faster than other).
Can we unlock the camera movement please.
