Liber Pater with Pan and panther3D Model
The statuary group of Liber Pater accompanied by Pan and panther represents one of the most beautiful works of art from Roman Dacia. Between 1989 and 1990, the researches conducted by Alexandru Diaconescu („Babeş-Bolyai” University of Cluj-Napoca), in Colonia Aurelia Apulensis were discovered several fragments of statuettes, reliefs and inscriptions related to the god of wine and vegetation, Liber Pater, among which, also this piece, broken into 34 smaller fragments. The sculpture was made of Aphion marble, in the Greek workshops from Asia Minor, in Phrygia, likely during the time of Emperor Hadrian (117-138 AD). Later, the sculpture was brought to Dacia, and placed within the sanctuary of Liber Pater from Apulum (Colonia Aurelia Apulensis), throughout the IIIrd century AD.
