This famous king list is in the mortuary temple of Seti I at Abydos, on the west wall of the passage leading from the second Hypostyle Hall to what is known as the “Butcher’s Hall.” The relief shows Seti I and his son, Prince Ramesses (the future Ramesses II) paying homage to 76 of their ancestors, the cartouches of whom are depicted. Rulers who were viewed unfavorably, like the kings of the Second Intermediate Period, Hatshepsut and the Amarna line, were ommitted, in an attempt to erase them from memory.
