Engine modelling again, this time in my 1996 Jaguar XJ Sport. This is the AJ16, a 3.2 litre inline-6 petrol engine fitted to the last of the X300 models, from 1994-1997. It’s a little rusty, but still runs fine in 2020 and has only done about 80,000, although the Jag toolbox that should be in there has gone walkabout.
Anyway, this isn’t a car ad: this is the result of lockdown boredom and 269 photos taken with a polarizing filter on a 40MP Huawei . The inital alignments were processed in Metashape and the mesh achieved in Meshlab. It’s still not perfect but I think it’s refined to the best possible detail without shooting in a controlled environment. Rust and dirt actually help pick up more detail, new shiny engines would be much harder without sprays etc.
