More model informationThe Douro river is incised 250 m in the Sayaguesa peneplain and describing a series of inherited meanders. Peña Gazón, delimited by one of these meanders, constitutes a remnant of the last level of the Pleistocene age erosion surface, carved out before the definitive downcutting of the Duero river. The Peña la Galga stream traverses the abrupt change in the existing slope between the peneplain and the Arribes, configuring a deep, narrow valley, and exhuming a boulder on the sunlit side of the valley at the same time. Inside the river gorge there are tors (Torrica del Castiello) and large vertical granite walls (Peña del Dos).
