The Flak-Vierling 38 was widely used as a defense against low-flying aircraft and was often part of anti-aircraft towers, armored trains and other fortified anti-aircraft positions. The weapon could also be used in earth combat in an emergency, for which an additional protective shield was installed. Almost all ships of the Navy (including submarines) were gradually upgraded with the quads. The Flak-Vierling 38 was produced at the Ostmarkwerk in Vienna, the Auto Union plant in Chemnitz and at Benteler in Bielefeld. The price was 20,000 RM.
