More model informationThis splending polychrome cup for cocoa (HOL.T.93.76.02.01) was discovered in a royal tomb in Building D of Group I at the archaeological site of Holmul. Once painted for a young king of Naranjo, Ajnumsaaj Chan K’inich, around 554 C.E., the vessel was subsequently given as a gift to his close Holmul ally, Juun Ch’am K’uh. The alliance between the two rulers was sealed with a dynastic union: Ajnumsaaj Chan K’inich’s daughter married Juun Ch’am K’uh’s son.
