The scene shows the distribution of iron and unstable titanium in the remant of a neutrino-driven supernova explosion. The isosurfaces show the distributions of shocked iron (red), titanium (blue), unshocked iron (orange), and unshocked titanium (lightblue) roughly at the age of the SNR Casssiopeia A, derived from the hydrodynamic models W15-2-cw-IIb-HD (on the left) and W15-2-cw-IIb-HD+dec (on the right). The latter includes the effects of nickel decay heating on the SNR evolution. The isosurfaces enclose 75% of the total mass of the respective unshocked or shocked species. The semi-transparent white surface indicates the reverse shock. The Earth vantage point lies on the negative y-axis.
MHD simulation performed with the PLUTO code.
