More model informationThis massive rhyolite has small phenocrysts of quartz and sanidine set in a granophyric groundmass. The rock is actually a fine-grained intrusive rock that forms the carapace of a large granite pluton, so is not strictly a rhyolite - however the fine grain size is similar to rhyolites. Of note is the very apparent conchoidal fracture, consistent with the very high silica character of this rock. In thin section, the rock has a granophyric texture.
