A small push gift for my cousin, his wife and little Amelia on the way. Two lovers together in a “parental hug” during pregnancy. This sculpture is just a candle holder, with mommy’s tummy as a recipient for the candle. I tried to conceive it according to a few design principles typical of Nordic minimalism (my cousins are from Denmark): plain, anti-baroque, sharp and yet smooth lines and shapes, resulting in two anonymous and symbolic mannequins rather than two realistic figures. My initial plan was to fabricate this model using some translucent material (i.e. clear epoxy or UV resin), in order to create an omnidirectional lighting effect once the candle was burning. Then I changed my mind and decided to use a plain opaque material to make the light shine upwards only. Porcelain would have done the trick, but… This digital artwork is part of a wider tale.
