More model informationThis specimen of azurite displays a spectacular stellate habit. Azurite [Cu₃(CO₃)₂(OH)₂], named for its azure colour, is one of the common copper carbonates that commonly form from oxidation of copper sulphide ore bodies. It is commonly found in association with the other copper carbonate malachite (small green patches in this specimen). It is similar in composition to malachite, but very different in colour, the difference in colour arising from the different coordination state of the copper ion.
