Volcanic bomb of basaltic scoria (igneous rock)3D ModelNoAI
Locality: Racoş, Romania
Size: 9 cm x 8 cm x 8 cm
Type: Pyroclastic rock (igneous rock)
Description: Pyroclasts are defined as fragments generated by disruption as a direct result of volcanic action. Bombs - pyroclasts the mean diameter of which exceeds 64 mm. Scoria is a highly vesicular dark colored volcanic rock that may or may not contain crystals (phenocrysts). Scoria is typically dark in color (generally dark brown, black or purplish red), and basaltic or andesitic in composition. It is similar to pumice but darker in color, not as light-weight, and more mafic in composition. Vesicules in scoria are usually larger than in pumice.
Essential minerals: plagioclase, mafic minerals (like olivine, hornblende, biotite and/or pyroxenes)
Non-essential minerals: hornblende, biotite and/or pyroxenes
