Fredericksburg Slave Auction Block (VCU_3D_4561)3D ModelNoAI
This stone is located on the corner of William Street and Charles Street in Fredericksburg, Virginia. There exists some question about whether this stone block was actually used to auction slaves or was simply a carriage stop. Noted National Park Service historian John Hennessy has examined this question in a series of blogs. He notes that this street corner was definitely the location of sales of enslaved individuals and, combined, with a strong oral tradition suggests that this was indeed a slave auction block. See here for details and other lings: https://fredericksburghistory.wordpress.com/2010/06/11/fredericksburg-seems-to-be-the-best-place-to-sell-slaves-in-the-state-more-evidence-on-the-auction-block/. The Fredericksburg Slave Auction Block was 3-D scanned with a Go!Scan 50 on June 15, 2019. Earlier in the week the Fredericksburg City Council voted to move the Fredericksburg Slave Auction Block to the nearby Fredericksburg Area Museum by the end of 2019.
