More model informationGastropods are part of the phylum Mollusca (along with cepahalopods, octopus and many other groups). More specifically they belong to the Gastropoda class.
This specimen displays the classic differences with cepahlopods like ammonites from the same phylum. While ammonites have a bilateral symmetry because they coil within the same plane, gastopods shells grow in a helical shape and hence lack any symmetry. Also unlike cephalopods, most gastopods are bethic and are not free-swimmers.
