Cockroach (3D photogrammetry scan)3D Model
This is a 3D scan of a cockroach I bought on etsy. It’s part of a larger project where I combined 3D modeled assets with photogrammetry (see http://whatswrongwithwhite.tumblr.com/image/177884973392 ). I used a lot of custom photo equipment (macro lens, polarization filters, extension tubes and a 3D printed cockroach holder from shapeways). For cleanup I used blender (cleaning up holes, chopping up into body parts, modeling deatils). For the final material design and export Substance Painter did a great job.

Awsome !
@hawkah You're welcome!
Great scan, thanks
@scotopicone Sorry, I don't have any experience in working with the downloaded model. If you get stuck please let me know and I can share the original .blend
Hi there. Awesome scan and thanks for sharing. I am a bit confused about applying texture to model, any advice can be helpful.. I am using Zbrush, maybe I should separate model by vertex groups in Blender before importing it to Zbrush?
Very nice man but why bought it? If you need more of this i have plenty for free! :))
@nebulousflynn I uploaded the Playroach with some baked-in lighting and other tweaks: skfb.ly/6BPQU
Thanks, glad you found some useful information in the blog. I used my old EOS 1000D, for such small objects its really worth investing in other gear first (lens, extension tubes, lighting). But at some point I’d like to try such a scan with one of those Megapixel monsters you can buy nowadays.
Ah... i see it in the blog already :)
Great scan, especially for such a small object! What camera do yo use?
@nebulousflynn Thanks for the feedback. I'm working on it. I'll try baking in most of the lighting and decimate the geometry. If it still renders nicely I'll upload it right away!
Great scan and the blog post is an excellent resource too! Will the combined scene be coming to Sketchfab at some point?
