The skull of the spectacled bear was received from the Moscow Zoo.
The spectacled bear should not be confused with the panda bear. The spectacled bear is the only bear that lives in the South America. It is believed that the spectacled bear is the most herbivorous bear. It feeds mostly on grass sprouts, fruits and roots. Sometimes the animal climbs up the palms and breaks a few branches to eat them on the ground later.
The spectacled bear lives mostly in mountain forests of the Western Andes (up to 3 000 meters) but it can also be found in the area of open meadow slopes and even lower, in savannas and thickets.
The spectacled bear is considered as threatened species and included in the Red List of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).
