I started this piece by blocking out the various base meshes in Sculptris before manually re-topologising them in 3dsMax. I sculpted the detail in Mudbox and used xNormal to bake out the Normal maps onto the low poly mesh.
Textures were painted with Mudbox and GIMP.
HP mesh: 8,193,556 polygons.
LP mesh: 36,486 polygons.
